Our Rabbi

Rabbi Avraham (Aver) Jacobs has served as the Rav of Bais Yisroel since its inception.

For the previous two years he served as Shoel Umeishiv at Yeshiva Toras Chaim. During that time he was instrumental in establishing Merkaz Torah v’Chesed, a nighttime Beis Medrash and learning center for members of the East side community headed by Rabbi Chaim Sher. Rabbi Jacobs continues to serve as the Rabbinical Director of Merkaz Torah v’Chesed. Prior to that Rabbi Jacobs was a Rosh Chabura at the famed Mir Yeshiva in Jerusalem, training rabbinical students in the Halachic areas of Hilchos Shabbos and Hilchos Nida.

Rabbi Jacobs was born and raised right here in the East side Denver community. While learning at the Mir Yeshiva in Jerusalem, he received his S’micha Yoreh Yoreh from Rabbonim in Eretz Yisroel including HaRav Moshe Halberstam zt”l (Member of the Eida Chareidis/Orthodox Rabbinical Court of Jerusalem), HaRav Yosef Yitzchok Lerner Shlit”a (Rosh Beis Medrash L’Hora’a Toras Shlomo) and HaRav Yitzchok Berkovits Shlit”a (Rav of Sanhedria HaMurchevet, Jerusalem). Prior to that he attended Yeshivas Ner Yisroel Baltimore (Ner Israel Rabbinical College) where he became a Talmid of HaRav Tzvi Berkowitz Shlit”a.

In addition to his Rabbinical degrees and training, Rabbi Jacobs earned a Bachelor’s Degree in Talmudic Law from Ner Israel Rabbinical College and pursued a Masters Degree in Counseling at Johns Hopkins University. Rabbi Jacobs is a highly skilled and experienced Mohel as well, performing Brisses in Shuls, homes and hospitals throughout Colorado and the entire front range.

Rabbi Jacobs teaches several Shiurim at Kehilas Bais Yisroel and at Merkaz Torah v’Chesed. These include: Gemara Kiddushin, Contemporary Halachic Themes from the Parsha, Hilchos Shabbos, Mishna B’rura and Pirkei Avos. Additionally he provides leadership, Halachic direction and pastoral guidance for members of our Kehila.

Rabbi Jacobs serves as the Rabbinical Director of Merkaz Torah v’Chesed. He is also a founding member of the Rabbinical Advisory Board of the Mikvah Of East Denver (MOED) and the rabbinically appointed Va’ad L’inyonei Geirus. As a member of the board of directors of Hillel Academy, Rabbi Jacobs plays an active role in the Jewish education of our children as well.

Rabbi Jacobs and his wife Rebbetzin Chavi Jacobs have six children – Binyomin, Michoel, Eliyahu, Shifra, Yehudis, and Moshe Avigdor.
